What is XAMPP?
Some vital elements are necessary to set up a localhost WordPress website. These include Apache web server software, programming languages such as PHP and Perl, and database management software MYSQL. However, It becomes a time-consuming and arduous job to install all these elements separately.
XAMPP can help you greatly to make this process easier. It’s an acronym for cross (x) platform, Apache, MySQL, PHP, and Perl that allows you to install all these elements effortlessly. XAMPP is free and open-source software, and you can quickly learn how to use it explicitly. It’s very lightweight and contains all the components necessary to set up a localhost server in a single extractable file.
How to Use WordPress with XAMPP- A Step by Step Guide
Installing WordPress using XAMPP on a localhost server can be done effortlessly by following a step-by-step guide. Let’s proceed on.
Step 1: Install XAMPP on your Windows computer
To start the proceeding, first, download the XAMPP from the apachefriends.org (it’s a dedicated project to spread the apache server and home for XAMPP). Now, it’s time to download the XAMPP. Since you are running Windows as the dedicated operating system, click on XAMPP for Windows to download the file for running.
Once you have installed the XAMPP for Windows operating system, it’s time to run the XAMPP on your computer. There are five different ports here. But for the technical purpose, you will start only two of them, Apache and MySQL, because both are essential to running WordPress.
Step 2: Generate a database
Once you have successfully installed XAMPP on your computer, it’s time to create a new database. To do this, go to your browser and write localhost/PHPMyAdmin. Next, click on New, located on the left side. Now, Provide your new database a name in the Database name box, then press the Create button. Your new database will be created.
Step 3: Download WordPress
Next, download WordPress from the official WordPress website. Unwrap the zipped WordPress file when the download is completed. It’s up to you whether you rename the file or keep it as WordPress.
After downloading and unwrapping the WordPress file on your computer, we have set the unzipped WordPress file name as sitetest.
Step 4: Install and configure WordPress
Next, head over to the XAMPP directory and find the htdocs folder. Now, paste the newly named unzipped WordPress file ‘sitetest’ there.
Now, you are going to start configuring WordPress. To do this, move onto your browser and write localhost/sitetest (it’s because we have renamed the file) and hit ‘Enter’ button of your keyboard . Next, select the language for your new WordPress website. Here, English is set as the default language. Now, click on Continue.
Right now, you have landed on a page that reminds you of some information that will be needed later. Click on Let’s Go after reading all the information carefully.
Once you have landed on the next page, provide your database name in the Database Name box. Give the Username as root and leave the Password option blank. The other two options will remain the same as the default. Lastly, click on the Submit button.
Now, you are about to start the WordPress installation process. So, click on Run the installation.
Step 5: Provide admin information to finish the WordPress installation process
In this step, you must provide all the required Admin information to finish the WordPress installation process. Once you are done, click on Install WordPress shown on the footer of the page.
You will be redirected to the WordPress login success page if you have provided all the details correctly. It shows the Username and Password you have given to your site. Finally, click the Login button to log in to your newly created WordPress local site successfully.
That’s how you can effortlessly use XAMPP with WordPress.
